Product Design in Operations Management: An Overview

Looking for this week's post I found this other blog with a very relevant content for the class. Basically explains very easily why product design is relevant for supply chain management.

The two basic steps in designing a product are functional design and production design and the post goes a little further on these two stages.

In production design there are some concepts that come into play like standarization, modular design and/or simplification.

Finally, the post mentions some of the factors that affect costs during the production design stage besides the direct labor and material costs.

I hope this is useful.
